When One Door Closes, There’s Always Another Door
So what’s happening everybody? The champ is in the building passing
out another tasty nugget of texturey goodness in this week’s edition of the
blog time. Welp time is running short, so let the scramble for the finish
begin!
I’ve got doors…
Yep, doors and some damn fine ones at that. So let’s have a
look of what’s in the pot.
First up is the door set that comes in at the beginning of
the level and that houses the level boss. SO as usual I had to go to everybody’s
favorite combo of grime, and cracks. When doing these things you always have to
keep the setting in mind. The general idea is that these are magical ruins of a
sort where Life Witch has been pent up for god knows how long, so they needed
to reflect some of that general wear and tear that would come from a land mark
that was just sitting there; so almost everything is littered with some moss
and a few cracks that would come with general weathering. I really wanted that rocky sort of feel. It’s
old; it’s simi-natural, so it shouldn’t be clean!
I also threw in a bunch of rune type engravings to show some
semblance of an ancient magical culture. I looked into some Egyptian as well as
Celtic markings to draw inspiration for the engravings and pretty much went
from there. I think I’m most proud of the large brazier pillars in our boss
area; they have got a lot of really fun markings on there that turned out
pretty good!
Anyway kiddies that’s the story, so that’s it. With the
level complete, there isn’t much more to show or share for the moment. So until
next time!

The Essence of Time
Yo ho and a bottle of rum kids? I’m back once again with
some tiny tidbits of goodness. And I do mean tiny whoo, because this week I’m a
little bit short on time so I’ve only got some minor things to share with you
in regards of what we’re doing.
So first off we’ve got some more scale back news. Due to
Prismas recent success, we’ve been forced to scale back on our dungeons once
more, so now we’re going to integrate the time witch boss battle instead of the
dungeon, which is understandable. Prisma is on the brink of success so they
have to take that shot! Good luck team. But I do have at least one thing to
share and that’s the boss area concept.
I was going for a music box kind of feel, with a raised
platform that pushes time witch up to the top of the area when while she
attacks. When you set the appropriate time on the clock the platform falls and
time witch becomes visible. All the walls are lined with gear columns that
constantly spin while the attack is carried out, when TW is visible, the gears
stop to further indicate that she’s vulnerable. There are also a few ides just
for the gears in the room to see what direction we might want to go there.
Well, that’s it for the moment, till next time folks.

Earth, Wind, and Archways
What’s happening peoples? It’s the concept kid checking in
once again with more goodies and what have you! So I hope everybody has been
doing pretty good out there? The quarter
is winding down and I’m sure everybody is feeling the pinch! But stay after it, make sure you rest, and
bring it home! So now that I’ve got my cheerleader rant out the way, its time
to get down on the new stuff. So in essence, I’ve still been out here on environment beautification
and beauty I have. T’oh!
Okay, so first up we have the magical wind elevator. First thing I did was make everything round
to help drive home the magical circle bit. I also threw in a bunch of rune type
engravings to show some semblance of an ancient magical language and or
culture. I looked into some Egyptian as well as Celtic markings to draw
inspiration for the engravings and pretty much went from there. I also tossed
them on them on to draw attention to them as magical items and to help unify
them with the other “man-made” objects throughout our tutorial level.
The archway is made
basically off the tried and true formula of grime, cracks and moss. I tried to
sneak in as much moss as I could in between the stones due to the fact tha its
near a waterfall and that stuff is going to sneak up in there due to the waters
nourishing powers! It turned out pretty good!
Anyways, that’s all I got for now, I’ll catch you kids next
time!
