Friends, Romans, Country Men, Lend Me Your Ear Drums…

Cause old man winter's arrived, the temperature dives
November just died, December's alive
Thus it ain't no typical ride
Just individual's way to bring home,
the bacon when bacon is all gone...

Howdy, howdy good folks in the blog-o-sphere! I’m back again, with another entry to the journal. It’s still grind time at SCAD, but in truth what else is new? But we do this because we love it, and that’s why we’re here.  Anyone who knows me knows I have the heart of a lion, so despite dealing with some things in my personal life that are heavy as hell, I soldier through and I will rise to the top again like a champion! That’s just what I do, believe that folks! Now that I’ve gotten my personal rant out the way, it’s time to get down on what I’m sure everybody came to see and that’s more concept art!

Yep that’s pretty much what I do at this point, but that’s okay with me, because that’s what I like to do! So we recently sat down and tried to figure out what was the deal with the little rug rats that our dream witch encounters throughout the course of the game. We settled on that there were basically two sets of kids, generic rug rats and bullet rug rats. From a narrative stand point they are servants to the boss witch of the area, DW (dream witch) collects the little monsters in order to lure said Boss out of hiding.  Generics are well…generic; they look the same and are to be collected by DW. Bullet children provide witchy poo with…well new bullets. The idea is to make the bullet kids stand out so you clearly see there is a difference between them and the regular runts. So naturally I went in the lab and start to ponder like Pooh on a log and thus…

Here is the wind child! Well, not really but I promise it’ll make sense! When I think of wind, I can’t help but think of one of my favorite X-Men, Storm. That’s probably because I see the damn thing every day. So my nerd senses started tingling and I had an idea (credit to Angelica too, she was tossing tornados around at a scrum). What if the brat sits on a tornado? And thus some more…

She’s naked for now due to the fact we don’t know where she goes yet. Each boss witch has a distinctive theme and level, and seeing as how bullet kids kind of act sort of like protégés to the boss witches, they should dress in a similar style. The important thing to nail down is behavior and look. I thought the feather earrings where a nice touch. I dumped in the dream witch to get an idea of how the kids should stack up next to her proportionally. Since, the bullet kids are higher on the food chain they will be a little bigger than their generic counter parts.

I’ve also been working on trying to get my concept styles in the ball park of Angelica’s. Let’s take our guy booty paladin as an example.

While I consider myself a talented artist, our styles are pretty different! Angelica stepped in and finished him for the final piece (then Hank came in and did him again for modeling sake and such) due to the fact that she is the lead artist. The new challenge is trying to immolate her style as close as I can. When I first drew BP (that's what the booty-paladin shall henceforth be referred to as) I tried to make him cute yet mildly menacing, so the feel has been on point with my designs. But the actual art is different. Granted, allot of the work early on was done before she fully established a look. We just kind of had a theme, so I tried to draw to that point. But the new challenge is to try and get as close to her work as possible. This will make things much easier when modeling time comes around so that the looks aren’t drastically different! There will be some discrepancies, as Angelica, myself, and Hank (who has also been contributing on the art side) all have different styles, but the key is to get in with the feel, and that’s what we’ve got going!

Anyway good people, that’s enough outta me for one night. Catch you guys on the next episode!
